I just downloaded a Driver for the HP 3000 color laser jet.. HP calls this
a "Universal Print driver" for Vista... Going to give that a shot this
afternoon.. I'll keep you posted.

It looks like the Universal driver from HP may do the trick... I got that installed and it is communicating with the printer. I got one test print before I got two tone replacement lights blinking. NOw it wont do anything until I replace those. But, it looks like that will do the trick.

Hi... I now have my HP Color LaserJet 1500L working under Vista. I am not a technical person but I thought I would add my
comments here in case it helped someone.

I initially had the 1500L connected to my Vista PC, and tried all the workarounds such as installing the LJ3000 Universal driver,
i tried the PCL6 and the Postscript versions - none of these worked, AND mysteriously, like Robert Owen, two toner replacement
lights came on! (n fact it was a toner light and the Drumkit light i think)... I know this wasnt a problem with the printer so I gave
up with this.

I then connected the printer to my wife's computer (XP) and it installed automatically, and I shared the printer, then i went to
my Vista PC, did a set up a printer - Network Printer, it installed automatically, didnt ask for drivers, printed a test page (The printer test page says Driver Name: UNDRV.dll, Driver Verion 6.00.) and verything seems to work. I havent done extensive testing but Word, Excel, and IE7 prints fine.

The only glitch is that it takes about 10 seconds to bring up the Printer Properties dialog box. I can live with that....
Maybe if you have an old pc sitting around you could fire it up with XP and be able to use your HP 1500L.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this was of help to someone.... Calvin Bradshaw.

What kills me about that is, if it can install and use the printer when it is shared then it should be able to install the printer locally. I've got an XP and 2000 machine still in use. I'm going to try a little longer but I fear I may have to go that route too. Don't get me wrong... There's nothing wrong with setting it up that way, I just hate to feel defeated.

(OVER THE NETWORK)
Take your Vista computer and locate your windows xp computer on the network(note: you must first have your Windows XP computer connected to the LaserJet 1500, installed the drivers and be able to print the the printer; you must also have your network established inbetween the computers ... oh yes and make sure your printer is ON:) ) Go into the printers folder and right click on the HP LaserJet 1500, Sharing..., Install Driver, Install Driver, Yes, Next, Have Disk..., (Download the driver from http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/hp-color..., MAKE SURE TO EXTRACT THE FILES), Browse (locate the folder where you extracted the file to, select HPPO.inf and click Open, OK, Next, (it should tell you that you have successfully completed the Add Printer Driver Wizard), click on Finish.
Then go back to the "HP LaserJet 1500" and right click, and click "Connect", follow the onscreen instructions.

You all finished!! ENJOY:)

Visit Control Panel/Printers to verify that the printer is there!!!

Vista driver for the HP 1500 L color jet.
The first time I installate the hp 1500 on a duch vista work's fine.
But when I installate a seccond time on a vista english version it went wrong.
So I wonder what happend because it should work on both versions, later I find out that the first time I just installate directly from the original CD and the seccond time I did it by vista let him find the driver self and from there everything go wrong and I also could not use the CD anymore, everytime give me a error if I want to installate. O.K. what I did now was let vista installate the driver and then I change the port in the printer properties, after that I put the CD again in my pc and use the original installion and this time without error message
then I see the first driver disappear and came back again as HP Color LaserJet 1500 and from now it work's perfect under vista.
I hope, I could help everybody with this driver problem.

I am posting it everywhere since I am mad about HP and Vista.

Hi all,

Like all of you I am so mad about this HP 1500 L not working with Vista that I followed some of the advises here.

Electricity being so expensive in New York City that I finally managed to trick Vista to print to a home made print server using the Linksys/Cisco NSLU2 running Samba on Linux.

I have not yet figure out why I needed to first configure it on an XP machine and then swap it but after 15 hours, I don't really care but share it.

I posted a rough draft on my website at http://www.theochino.com/MSVistaHP1500L
(The English is not perfect, but if you have questions I will try to make it better.)

Sincerely,
Theo Chino (so mad after HP and MS but I will stay polite that I am compelled to share it.)

Fix for Vista and HP Laserjet 1500L:

1. Install printer from within Windows vista as if it was connected to lpt1 port with printer USB cable unplugged using supplied install disc.
It should install OK but of course it won't work.
2. Delete printer icon.
3. Reinstall the printer from the Windows Vista Printer dialog this time with a USB port and search the windows driver list. The HP 1500L should show up.
4. Voila! Happy printing.
