Disable Vista's UAC
I've been using Windows Vista Ultimate now on my main computer now since March 18, 2007. And, I have to tell you I'm very pleased with the results so far.
I've had one blue screen in that time... AND it was completley my fault, I tried installing a program that was not intended to run under vista. It said it was not compatible.. but I had to try and was slapped down for my cheek! Other than that, Windows Vista is turning out to be a VERY GOOD operating system. My wife is using a MAC book pro with OS X and she has had more problems with program freezes and locking up than I do on either my XP of Vista Machines.
Enough of that... Some of the major complaints I see on the web have to deal with the UAC (User Access Control). So, not that I recommend doing this, as the new Vista UAC (User Access Control) adds a lot of security to the new Vista operating system but, here are a couple of simple methods for turning off the UAC in Windows Vista.
First there are many ways to turn off the UAC but these two seem the simplest.
Option 1: Using MSCONFIG
- Click the Start "Pearl" and type msconfig into the search box and hit enter.
- Click on the Tools tab in the window that opens. Scroll to the section in the list labeled "Disable UAC" and click that line.
- When you click that line it will fill in the box beside the Launch button.. Click Launch
- This will open a command window. When it finishes the command line, close the window.
- Close the msconfig window and reboot your computer.
Option 2: Usnig the Conttrol Panel
- Log into an "Administrative Account"
- Click the "Pearl"..
- Click "Control Panel"
- Click "User Accounts"
- Click "Turn User Account Control on or off"
- Un-check the box beside " Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer".
- Click OK
- Reboot the computer
To turn the UAC back on with this method.. Simply repeat the steps above and "RE-check" the "Use User Account Control" box.
Again, I don't recommend doing this... It's very little aggravation for the added security.. But, Now you can if it's driving you up the wall.
