Windows Vista Auto Logon

July 5, 2007 By Robert Owen

Happy Post 4th of July!!! I hope everyone was safe in their celebrations…. ie.. no one burnt down their or their neighbor's house!!

I talked a while back about setting Windows XP to auto logon… I've been setting up a lot of Vista machines lately and it seemed like this was not going to be an option for the new OS. But, being the optimist that I am, I decided to try my Windows XP directions to see what would happen. Well, they work perfectly.

So, to set Windows Vista to Auto Login when you boot the computer you need to follow these steps:

  • Click the “Start Pearl”
  • in the “run/search” box type “control userpasswords2”
  • a window will open. In that window uncheck “users must enter a password”
  • click apply, it will prompt you for your user name and password

That's all there is to it. Remember, this is not advisable in a business setting or any other place where you don't want someone else to have access to your data.
