MS Office Alternative!

August 7, 2007 By Robert Owen

I had a customer ask the other day if there was a “way” to get Microsoft Office without actually paying for it. Well, while there are “ways”, none of them are legal nor are things I am willing to do. They only really asked about this because of the extremely high price of the new version.

So, I decided to give a try to open office. If you are looking for a good, low-cost (no-cost), replacement for Microsoft Office.. Well, I suggest you give OpenOffice.org a try. So far I have found it simply great!! The download is a little large about 100 meg or so, but it is well worth it.
Open Office contains nearly everything in the full Professional Version of MS Office. The Components included are:

  • Writer – (Word)
  • Impress – (like Powepoint)
  • Math
  • Draw
  • Calc – (Excel)
  • Database

The only missing application is a comparison product for outlook or even a plain mail client… Otherwise this is shaping up to be a great Office alternative.
