Samsung BlackJack

September 1, 2007 By Robert Owen

Well.... For various reasons I've had to replace my Blackberry 7100g cell phone. When I first got it two years ago it worked really well for about 1 week... Then it started dropping calls, turning itself off, etc... So I went back to the Cingular Store where I got it and they made me call Blackberry and ... well.. they had me send it back and they sent me a refurb. Which, worked well until very recently. This phone started behaving the same as my first. So, I went into my local Cingular … [Read more...]

August 30, 2007 By Robert Owen

I was doing some poking around on my keyboard to see what shortcuts where still working in Windows Vista. Thankfully all the ones I was used to were still there.. But, there had to be more? Newer... Groovier?? Well, here is a list of all the Windows Vista keyboard shortcuts. I don't know how Groovy these are... But they will be useful. EASE OF ACCESS Press Right SHIFT for eight seconds ---->Turns Filter Keys on and off Press Left ALT+left SHIFT+PRINT SCREEN (or PRTSCRN) ---->Turns High … [Read more...]

Finding the Vista Telnet Client

August 13, 2007 By Robert Owen

From time to time I find that I need use of a telnet client... And, when I used Windows XP primarily, I would just drop to a command prompt and type the command. Well, that is not quite as simple in Windows Vista. By default, Vista doesn't include the Telnet client, but you can install it very simply by following these steps: 1. Open the Programs and Features Control Panel applet found: Start -->Control Panel -->Programs and Features 2. Select "Turn Windows features on or off." 3. … [Read more...]

Vista Desktop Icons

July 17, 2007 By Robert Owen

By default, upon install, the Windows Vista desktop is empty... Aside from the recycle bin. You can add back the "Computer", "Documents", and "Network" Icons very easily. First "right-click" on the desktop. From the context menu choose the "Personalize" link. When the next window opens, look in the left hand corner, you will see two links. Click the "Change desktop icons" link. That will open another window. Where you will be able to choose the items you want to place on the … [Read more...]

Windows Vista Auto Logon

July 5, 2007 By Robert Owen

Happy Post 4th of July!!! I hope everyone was safe in their celebrations.... ie.. no one burnt down their or their neighbor's house!! I talked a while back about setting Windows XP to auto logon... I've been setting up a lot of Vista machines lately and it seemed like this was not going to be an option for the new OS. But, being the optimist that I am, I decided to try my Windows XP directions to see what would happen. Well, they work perfectly. So, to set Windows Vista to Auto Login … [Read more...]

Why? Microsoft. Why?

May 29, 2007 By Robert Owen

I was looking over the new back-up utility in Windows Vista.. And looked into the help files to see this: Will automatic backups run if my computer is turned off? No. If your computer is turned off during the scheduled backup time, automatic backups will not run. However, the next time you turn on your computer, you will be able to back up your files and resume the normal backup schedule. I just want to know why... Who asked that question once that they needed to put it in the help … [Read more...]

Outlook 2007 – Data File Problem – Take Two

May 17, 2007 By Robert Owen

Tuesday I blogged about my possible solution for the dreaded: "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems." Well, yesterday it started happening again. So, I did some more research.. When Outlook SAYS it's checking the file for errors... It never: Tells you if there were errors Fixes the mysterious errors So, here is another suggestion that seems to be working for me so far. I would do this in addition to the previous post. … [Read more...]
