Windows 2003 Server does not stream FLV videos

February 2, 2008 By Robert Owen

I was having some trouble today getting a flash file to work. I was trying to stream a FLV (Flash video) file and although it was working great on my local machine it would not stream when I loaded it up on my server. The SWF file would play, well.. the controls would come up but the file wouldn't stream.. I waisted a lot of time moving files around and re-making before I found this. Like always, thought I'd share.. Issue: When Flash Player movie files that stream external FLV … [Read more...]

Speed up File Copy in Vista

January 16, 2008 By Robert Owen

I've been using Vista Ultimate as my primary OS now for nearly a year and, I have to say I'm having VERY FEW problems. Certainly not the horror stories you read all over the web and, really no more than I had with Windows XP Pro. It may have something to do with the machine I built to run Vista. (It gets a 5.4 on the Windows Experience Index) I get no system freezes, no " … [Read more...]

Moving a SSL to a new Server (IIS 6.0)

November 26, 2007 By Robert Owen

Ever had to move an SSL to a new server? Well I have and, I can never remember the steps. I end up spending and hour or so just looking it up on the web so I can accomplish this 5 minute task. It's pathetic really. But, once you get them installed moving them is not something that you do everyday. So, I've decided to use my site to hold these directions for the next time I SPAZZ out. Maybe they will be of some use to someone else? Step 1: Create a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) … [Read more...]

Mail Server Software Update

November 6, 2007 By Robert Owen

Just an update here... I've looked at a few new mail server programs and have decided to give MailEnable Professional a try.. I am looking at it and SmarterMail Both Programs look Great! MailEnable does seem to require less system resources.. But other than that they seem to compare really closely. Except in Price.. But, I can deal with that if I have to. I'm trying MailEnable Professional because they offer a 90 day try before you buy. So I'm doing just that. I've migrated … [Read more...]

Mail Server Software

October 16, 2007 By Robert Owen

I'm in the market for some new e-mail server software... Anyone out there have any suggestions. I'm currently using Capesoft E-mail server, which is great... Really in-expensive. It includes unlimited domains/users and is really easy to set-up. But lacks some other functions, Webmail for instance. I wrote a little Coldfusion webmail application but it is very basic.. Only letting the user read/reply/compose mail. I'm looking for something with a good webmail interface, … [Read more...]

Remote Desktop Slow in Vista

October 16, 2007 By Robert Owen

I am using my Vista Ultimate machine primarily now for day-to-day work.. And everything is running quite smoothly to be honest. No crashes, no freezes, no spyware.. Everything is great. I help manage SEVERAL servers across my WAN and use Remote Desktop to great effect. But, last week a new Server was added. I logged in with my trusty Remote desktop to start setting up an SFTP server. Only, this time everything was WAY WAY WAY Slow... I mean I was waiting a good thirty seconds between clicks. … [Read more...]
