The First Microsoft Bing Ad

I ran across this a little while ago. Microsoft has launched it’s first Bing commercial and, it’s not terrible. Nothing Earth Shattering but it’s a pretty good commercial. I’ve used “Bing” a few times and I’ll say one thing, it is quite fast returning results. I’ve not put it head to head with Google yet to see what it does … Read more

Pretty URLS for WordPress on IIS

I’ve been playing around with my site again. Trying to work out the beauty of my urls. I thought they looked pretty good… Well, similar to what I’m used to from BlogCFC anyway. The urls were like this: www.owenwebs.com/index.php/xxxx/xxx/xxx etc.. Which is not too bad… Better than the default: owenwebs.com/?p=13 or something silly like that. But, I’ve seen them better … Read more

The Pirate Bay is Going to the PO-PO!

Just saw over at  Ars Technica that the Sweedish Distric Court trial about the Pirate bay has ended. And, it appears it has ended BADLY for the Pirate Bay. Here’s a clip from their article: The Pirate Bay “spectrial” has ended in a guilty verdict, prison sentences for the defendants, and a shared 30 million kronor ($3.5 million) fine. According … Read more

Interesting Problem: Snipping tool is not working

I love the Vista snipping tool! I use it probably, every other day. But today I needed it and got this error: The Snipping Tool is not working on your computer right now. Restart your computer, and then try again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator. Very odd. Of course I had about 12 tabs open in FireFox … Read more

Google Chrome: ooh, shiney!

Last night I downloaded and installed Google's new browser, Chrome. I plan on putting it through the ringer today and will, if possible, use it as my primary browser. My initial impressions are pretty positive. The download is simple and quick. There is a 400ish kilobyte installer that you download and run. That installer then brings down the rest of … Read more

Remote Desktop Slow in Vista

I am using my Vista Ultimate machine primarily now for day-to-day work.. And everything is running quite smoothly to be honest. No crashes, no freezes, no spyware.. Everything is great. I help manage SEVERAL servers across my WAN and use Remote Desktop to great effect. But, last week a new Server was added. I logged in with my trusty Remote … Read more

CA Arcserve version 9.0 and IE 7

I ran across an interesting error on a client's server this past week. Their nightly backup had begun crashing without any reported cause. The results of the last back-up simply said crashed.

The logs did not show any clear reason why this would be happening. Other than they had several instances of “Bad media” reported in some of their last actual back-up attempts.

Side note: Pay more attention to your back-ups people!! if you start seeing “Crashed” errors. Don't wait a month before asking someone for help!

We put new tapes in the drive and attempted the back-up job again. It would run the first section of the job until 5-10% then it would just stop. No errors.. Just stop..
