Ready for Windows Vista?

November 22, 2006 By Robert Owen

Well, it's getting close… Windows Vista I mean. Microsoft has announced that it's newest operating System, Windows Vista, will be broadly available as a stand-alone product or preinstalled on new PCs on January 30, 2007. And, Windows Vista will be made available to Volume License customers later in the month of November 2006.

So, I ask again… Are you ready?

Many people, no doubt, will want to try and upgrade their existing systems to the new Operating System. Well, like when Windows XP was released your current system may not be “up-to-snuff” to run the new OS. So, with estimated costs being anywhere from $99 to $400, you might want to check your PCs before taking the plunge.

Here are a couple of Windows Vista compatibility checkers:

  • Pc Pit-Stop's Vista Checker
  • Crucial.com's Vista Scanner
  • Microsoft's own: Vista Upgrade Advisor

The first two seem to work fairly well and quickly, but the Microsoft is slow and I could not get it to complete, so… Good luck with that one.
Just make sure and check your system in some way before you break the bank on the upgrade.
