The Accidental Genesis (Friday’s Performance) – Night two

January 17, 2026 By Robert Owen

Horn player musings of creation - from the second performance. Warm-Up Warm-up is a strange place. Nothing officially counts, yet everything matters. Notes are tested, breath is measured, confidence negotiated quietly with physics. It is preparation, but also possibility. Looking down between my feet during warm-up, I saw it again. New universes. Not fully formed. Not confident. Small clusters and scattered points, practice universes. Places where physics was still flexible, where civilizations … [Read more...]

The Accidental Genesis – Horn player musings of creation

January 17, 2026 By Robert Owen

Program notes for a universe formed during intermission - Performance night one. Observed shortly before intermission. Note the presence of the creator’s feet for scale, accountability, and mild judgment. At first glance, skeptics will say the image above is just a spill.Condensation. Gravity doing what gravity does. A little gross, maybe inconvenient, but ultimately meaningless. That theory collapses under even casual scrutiny. What you are actually looking at is creation mid-process. These … [Read more...]

A Picture A Day – Day 22

March 25, 2011 By Robert Owen

Here we are, Day 22 --- It's gig time again.  At a rehearsal up in Oak Ridge and during a lull I decided to take a few pictures of the stage and peoples with my phone.  When I got to looking at the results, individually they seemed a little lacking.  But, they each covered enugh of the stage that I was able to combine them in to a single panorama. A little fuzzy, sure...But not too bad for a phone! Almost a month down... See you on day 23. … [Read more...]

A Picture A Day – Day 17

March 20, 2011 By Robert Owen

Day 17 - Here we go.  Gig's are over with but, today has been pretty slow... no pictures until I went to Quintet rehearsal.  Waiting on everyone to show up, we decided a quick game of pool was called for.  Then I remembered I needed a shot. Here ya go... Pool anyone?   Nothing like a rehearsal space that also has a pool table in it, huh?  Play some Quintet music... Play some Pool... Play some Quintet... Play some Pool... etc, etc... Maybe I'll have something interesting … [Read more...]

A Picture A Day – Day 15

March 18, 2011 By Robert Owen

It's a gig day.  And one that required a little bit of travel.  So,  with work an driving, the best I can give you today is a picture of the entrance to the rehearsal space up here in Kingsport.  I know,  it's not exciting in the least.  Nothing like the Duck Butts from yesterday, but these can't all be winners, can they? At any rate, enjoy! As usual, click to get a bigger version of this wondrous picture!   … [Read more...]

A Picture A Day – Day 14

March 17, 2011 By Robert Owen

Picture Day 14, So.. At the new Gig (working for the man) there is this Drainage pool behind the parking lot.  Normally, this is just a large empty grassy hole. But, with all the rain we've had lately, this tends to fill up and turn in to a pretty respectable pond.  It must be pretty good because these Ducks seem to come back every time it fills. This morning, I arrived and found these two guys back again and obviously pretty happy. But, today I was slow on the draw and the best I can do for … [Read more...]

A Picture A Day – Day 9

March 10, 2011 By Robert Owen

Day 9 and going strong! This is a traveling picture from "the backseat" .  I had a Gig this morning with the KSO in Greeneville.   And, instead of riding the bus, a few of us carpooled.  What do musicians do on the way to a gig?  Work, of course!  It was like a mobile office in that car. I bet some of you are wondering what a "Gig" is.  Well a "Gig" is  is a Paid Job.  In this context, it is a paid musical job.  You can play music for people and at remote locations but, it's only a "Gig" … [Read more...]
