Exporting FireFox Book Marks

March 21, 2007 By Robert Owen

One of the things with this Vista machine is the fact that I didn't have all my trusty book marks from FireFox any longer. It's easy to get your Favorites from Internet Explorer... just copy the Favorites folder in your user profile to the new machine and you're done. But, FireFox.... there's no file to copy for them. But, luckily in FireFox it's easy as well. … [Read more...]

Vista Ready?!

March 18, 2007 By Robert Owen

Ok.. I'm ready. I have a machine built and Vista Ultimate installed. I used the following hardware for this new PC: ASUS P5W64-WS Professional Motherboard Intel 2.4 ghz Core2Duo Processor 2 Gig Kingston DDR2 800mhz RAM ASUS 7900 GS (NVidia) Video adapter Plextor PX-755SA Dual Layer DVD/CD writer Two Western Digital 500 gig SATA drives in RAID 1 I chose the ASUS board because of the 1066 mhz Front side Bus and DDR2 800 mhz RAM support. And, because I like ASUS, their boards are … [Read more...]

Supporting Vista!

March 8, 2007 By Robert Owen

Since I've started having clients asking me about upgrading to Windows Vista. And, come to find out, I have to assist in the upgrading of an entire office network to Windows Vista I decided that I need to immerse myself in this new OS. You know.. since 1/2 my business is about PC support. Might want to know about this. Ya think. So, I am going to build myself a new computer with Windows Vista Ultimate. I'm doing a new PC because of the support issue. As it stands currently, 90% of … [Read more...]

Outlook PST files

February 19, 2007 By Robert Owen

I've had to deal with outlook "PST" files lately and thought I'd post some general info about them. For those of you who use Microsoft Outlook you might want to know where your data is actually saved. Outlook saves all of your data in a file called "Outlook.pst". The "pst" extension stands for "Personal STore" and this is a fairly complex database that contains all of your: Mail, contacts, calendar information, notes, and anything you save within outlook. Should you ever need to transfer you … [Read more...]

Computer Locked up?

January 18, 2007 By Robert Owen

Everyone's seen it... You are surfing the web or working on a project for work when.... Everything Freezes up! AAAAARRRRGGGG... (no, this isnt an ad for Geek Squad!). What caused it? Spyware? Virus? Cheese? It's really hard to tell. Lots of things can cause the dreaded "Freeze". After cursing furiously, you reboot and continue your work..(if you were a good boy/girl and actually saved it!?) But what caused it???? When this starts happening, think about what may have changed lately.. Did … [Read more...]
