The other Day Gizmodo and others leaked information about the official release date and prices for the new Zune HD.  If you missed those posts here’s the “skinny”.

According to Microsoft the new Zune HD will officially be available starting September 15, 2009.  Originally we thought the release date was set for September 5, then later we heard it had changed to late October or early November of this year.   So, it’s good to have an Official Announcement on the date.

The new Zune HDs are priced at $219.99 for the 16 gigabyte version and $289.99 for the 32 gigabyte version.   This is slightly less than the comparable iPod Touch models which are priced at $299 for the 16gb and $399 for the 32gb.

You can Pre-Order the new Zune by going to the Zune HD website and clicking the “Pre-order” link in the upper right hand corner.

Cool Video: Bird Attacks RC Plane

June 15, 2009 by Robert Owen

I’m a big fan of RC (Remote Controlled) Airplanes, Helicopters, and cars. I don’t have any right now but, I’ve been looking at Helicopters and think I may want to give that a whirl. ;-) – sorry about the pun. I did, however, get my nephews a couple of really sweet/fast cars for Christmas this past year. I think with the engines installed these little cars could get up to 30mph! Very cool indeed!

Well, we were looking at adding a camera to the cars so you could see their speed from the car’s point of view but, wasn’t sure how it would look… Then, today, I saw a tweet on twitter from Zefrank about this Vimeo Video and, it was pretty cool. Shows just how well mounting a camera to a Remote Controlled vehicle would work. In this case it was on a plane. The guy who shot the video has lots of other good ones but, I think this one takes the cake! So here ya go… This is pretty cool:

Raptor attack! from Billwhit on Vimeo.

A large raptor attacks my remote controlled eagle. I barely get away by making quick dives until some crows come to my rescue!

Hi. As they say on twitter, I’m “the guy” with a Zune. Well, one of them anyway. Microsoft has recently officially announced the release of a new Zune this Fall. The Zune HD! Some of Features of the new Zune include:

  1. a Touch Screen with multi-touch navigation. This is a 3.3-inch screen and has a vivid 16:9 OLED display (480×272 resolution)
  2. Integrated HD Radio receiver: Tune into all your favorite stations with crystal-clear reception. Access a variety of HD Radio stations at no additional cost. Plus, tag the songs you like for later purchase.
  3. HD Video out:  720p HD movies, TV shows and videos in high definition on your HDTV through the Zune HD & AV Dock (sold separately). Or take them with you for premium entertainment on the go.
  4. Built-in Wireless: Connect, update, and buy content wirelessly from Wi-Fi hot spots. Stream millions of songs over Wi-Fi directly to your Zune HD and turn it into a portable digital jukebox.
  5. Web Browser: Enjoy your favorite websites with a full-featured web browser including tap-to-zoom technology, built-in accelerometer, and touchscreen QWERTY keyboard.

There are tons of pictures of the new harware over at Gizmodo and there is also a short video demo below.

Zune HD Video Hands On from Gizmodo on Vimeo.

I’m not finding anything on the price point yet but, as soon as I do I will update this entry. It seems very fast and sleek in the video and I’m looking forward to some more demo’s and the release!

More to come!

**EDIT**
According to Paul Thurrott over at the SuperSite the browser for the new Zune HD will be a “Flavor” of IE 6. Check out his latest article on the new Hardware.

Also, I found over at PCWorld, an older Article saying the NEw Zune HD will come in 16 and 32 gig versions. But, that may be subject to change.

Blackberry Going the way of the iPhone, Kinda.

March 30, 2009 by Robert Owen

This may be old news, but it’s new to me so here!!! It looks like Blackberry has decided to provided an App Store of its own. Yup, Just like Apple and the iPhone, they are working on a “store” to:

..Find tons of great applications designed for your BlackBerry® smartphone in one convenient place – BlackBerry App World™. Personalize your BlackBerry smartphone with games, social networks, personal productivity applications and so much more…

bgback11Click here to Register for BlackBerry App World and be e-mailed when it is available!

It’ll be nice to have a Blackberry supported Apps Store, a “one stop shop” of Apps that will work for your Blackberry without having to hunt around for things that might work.

Blackberry Bold

December 8, 2008 by Robert Owen

I've gone and done it again… Changed phones, that is.

Last year, after loosing my Blackberry 7100g to a tragic water accident, I purchased the Samsung Blackjack. At the time I thought it to be a great, great phone.

Well, needless to say, things started to break down. To avoid a long story, I went through 3 warranty replacements and one warranty “upgrade” (they upgraded me to the Blackjack II) none of which were any better than the other. So, rather than continue to flounder with this phone I decided a change was due.

Enter the Blackberry Bold. Right off the bat I new THIS was a true upgrade. There really is stock in the saying: “you get what you pay for!”, because you get that and a lot more with this device. Here's some specs:

Features:

  • Wireless email
  • Organizer
  • A good web Browser
  • Phone, Speaker phone
  • Camera (2.0 MP)
  • Video Recording
  • Media Player
  • Built-in GPS
  • Wi-Fi® Support
  • Corporate data access
  • SMS and MMS

Size and Weight

  • 4.48″/114mm (Length)
  • 2.6″/66mm (Width)
  • 0.59″/15mm (Depth)
  • 4.8 oz/136g (Weight)
