Change your max file upload size in WordPress

March 9, 2011 By Robert Owen

Everybody may already know how to do this but, I didn't and it was driving me crazy.  And, since I will have to make this change again sometime, I'm posting it here. Ever since I switched over to Wordpress, I've been stuck with a two (2) meg file upload limit.  I thought this was a bit crazy because I self host this site and have full control over every aspect of the server.   Since I don't give myself any limits anywhere else (I'm such a good host) I didn't like having one here either.  Or … [Read more...]

Clear Lost Content Adviser Password

February 14, 2011 By Robert Owen

Got an interesting from a friend out of a while back. In her e-mail she asked: My dad, who is 67 and knows nothing about a computer – nothing – is trying to operate my late mother’s Dell, so that he can use the internet. The problem is, Mom had put so many content blocks on it with parental controls that he can’t even get to the google. It prompts him for a password. I have no idea what this password is, and I was able to talk him through to get to the Tools/Internet Options/Content tab … [Read more...]

Create a Shortcut to open in your Alternate Browser

June 19, 2010 By Robert Owen

Here's a quick and simple "How To" for you.  I had this question posed by a client the other day and it made me think.    This Client is a fan of FireFox.  It is his default browser and tries his best to NEVER use Internet Explorer.  But, as is the case with most things, the more you try to keep from using something that's right when you find out you have to. This was the case here.  He had a vendor's website that would only work in IE AND he needed to use this website alot so, he had a … [Read more...]

Scammers: They really need to try something new

February 16, 2010 By Robert Owen

Happy Tuesday !!!   Unless you are not reading this on a Tuesday. In  which case I would say,   " Happy   ________day!!"   So, this morning  I opened up my e-mail and was treated to another ...  (*dum dum duuummm*) E-mail, scam attempt!!!  (I feel like there should be lightning strikes and thunder when I say that) Not that I want anyone to get "taken in" by these foul creatures, I just think they need to have a little more ingenuity...  A little more creativity...  COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW! … [Read more...]

Warranty Schmarranty

January 7, 2010 By Robert Owen

Here's an interesting read about Apple's wonderful customer service. Note my sarcasm?  :-) Anyway, here's a short clip of the article. The Apple Retail Store Hates You  - I recently visited the Apple store to exchange a defective power adapter which was still under warranty.  I still have the defective adapter, as it has now cost more time and effort than it was originally worth. What I have lost is time, money, and trust in the ethics of the retail store.  What I have gained is … [Read more...]

Windows 7 Telnet Client

December 7, 2009 By Robert Owen

I dropped to a command prompt today on my Windows 7 machine to telnet into my Cisco Router and found, that once Again the Microsoft telnet client is not installed. It seems that, as with Windows vista, the Microsoft Telnet client is not installed by default.   But luckily it's pretty easy to install,  just follow these simple steps: Click the Start "Pearl" and select the Control Panel from the menu. Once the Control Panel opens, double click the Programs and Features  … [Read more...]
