December 4, 2009 By Robert Owen

Hello peoples !! Want an Invite to Google Wave?  Well, as It so happens, I have a few to pass out. I've still not figured out how I am going to make use of this new service but, I log in from time to time and give it a go.  When I logged into my Google Wave account today I  found that I have 15 more invites to give away!  Hurray!?!?  Now, some of you may be asking: "What is Google Wave?" Well, who better to answer that than Google themselves: Google Wave is a new online communication and … [Read more...]

Scam attempts: Aren’t they cute?

November 5, 2009 By Robert Owen

Howdy all! I hope all is well for everyone this fine day! Today, I got a fresh scan attempt in my e-mail.  This one is interesting in that fact that  it abandons the old  "Hey, I'm in another country and my pop died and I need to funnel his money out..." route.  This is attempting to lure you in by embracing the whole "random internet user" thing... In fact it addressees  it's opening remarks to "Internet User"... Is this supposed to give you a sense of security?  I don't know but, from … [Read more...]

Windows 7 error 86

October 28, 2009 By Robert Owen

Windows 7 & Windows 2000  -  Error 86 when mapping drives. One of my upgrades this week to Windows 7 was from a Windows XP laptop. Following  the steps I outlined in my previous post the initial process was a breeze!  No problems at all!!  Simple, some would say,  and as everything else goes as soon as "they" said it was simple...  Something will break!  That's just how it is... If something seems easy, it will be easy!  Until you TELL someone it was easy, then all bets are off! In … [Read more...]

Windows 7 Clean Install from Upgrade

October 28, 2009 By Robert Owen

Windows 7 seems to be a hit! Since it's release on October 22, I've installed it in one form or another MANY, times probably twelve in the last 6 days.   The first couple of upgrades concerned me slightly because of the indefinite answer on whether or not you could do a clean install from the upgrade disk. I had a couple of laptops running the release candidate and I DID NOT want to have to install Vista then do an upgrade.  But to my surprise that was just as easy as the install from an … [Read more...]

Another Scam Attempt

October 12, 2009 By Robert Owen

Hi all!  Got another scam attempt in "Ye Ole" e-mail today.  Now this one is pretty obvious but,  I thought I would go ahead and post it in one more attempt to thwart the evil doings of these stinking Scammers.  As always,  if you get this e-mail (or anything that resembles this e-mail)  delete it!!  Do not respond, do not pass go,  send it straight to your "deleted items folder" . 49, Featherstone Street, LONDON, EC 1Y 8SY UNITED KINGDOM Telephone: + 44 703 194 6790 Fax: 44 207 901 … [Read more...]

Use the Snipping Tool to Capture Menus

August 27, 2009 By Robert Owen

When Vista came on the scene one of the new features I thought was pretty cool was the new Snipping tool.  It's a really useful little utility and for the most part it's great.  In Windows 7, the tool is still there (no improvements that I can see).  But, one of the things about this little utility that bothered me was my inability to use it to capture context and other drop-down menus.  Every time I would open the menu I needed to capture, it would disappear as soon as I selected the Snipping … [Read more...]
