Remote Shutdown, Oh how I love thee…

June 17, 2009 By Robert Owen

I manage a few Windows Servers across my VPN... Updating software, OS, and managing backups, etc. And, sometimes when you are installing an update that requires a reboot things can get a little complicated. Especially, if that server has a lot of services running and you are logged in via Remote Desktop. If there a lot of services that have to be shut down, sometimes the server can hang in the process... Cutting your remote session but not finishing the reboot process. So... enter … [Read more...]

Cool Video: Bird Attacks RC Plane

June 15, 2009 By Robert Owen

I'm a big fan of RC (Remote Controlled) Airplanes, Helicopters, and cars. I don't have any right now but, I've been looking at Helicopters and think I may want to give that a whirl. ;-) - sorry about the pun. I did, however, get my nephews a couple of really sweet/fast cars for Christmas this past year. I think with the engines installed these little cars could get up to 30mph! Very cool indeed! Well, we were looking at adding a camera to the cars so you could see their speed from the car's … [Read more...]

Email Scam – Trying another route

June 15, 2009 By Robert Owen

I got another Scam attempt in the e-mail tonight and thought I would share. I may have to make a whole new section of the site for these pitiful attempts. I guess it must sucker somebody, else they wouldn't continue the effort. Maybe since I've ignored all of their other attempts, they decided they needed to switch directions. Received: from cantv.net (rs20s9.datacenter.cha.cantv.net [200.109.127.76]) by rs26s12.datacenter.cha.cantv.net (8.14.3/8.14.3/3.0) with ESMTP id n5F10Xop008234; Sun, … [Read more...]

June 13, 2009 By Robert Owen

Here is another "Eaten Post" from my site Conversion. Happy Saturday to everyone... Following Friday Funny style (I know it's Saturday),  the following came to me via an e-mail.  Here is a random worthless mess for All those people who "know" everything. Who knows if it's 100% accurate or not but, if you know everything, you'll know. And, if you don't... Well... ENJOY! SO YOU THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING? A dime has 118 ridges around the edge. A cat has 32 muscles in each ear. A … [Read more...]

Here’s to MAC Security

June 13, 2009 By Robert Owen

This was another "Eaten" Post. I'm adding it back because I find it is still relevant information in the whole MAC vs PC debate going on these days. The information below is slightly dated but, it really hasn't changed much in the past year. Problems still exist on BOTH sides. (Although the MAC guys would lead you to believe otherwise.) Well, we always hear of the Apple Macintosh's superior OS security... How they never get viruses; never lock-up, No "Holes" in their OS etc.. And, now that … [Read more...]

iPhone 3g – what?

June 12, 2009 By Robert Owen

I was on Twitter yesterday morning and saw a tweet come through with a link to the image below... It originates from the JoyofTech over at Geekculture.com. It appears they have an issue with the name for the latest iPhone release. (Who can blame them...) Either that or the artist was looking at a Lingerie magazine during the WWDC. Anyway, here ya go: Be sure and visit their site and tip the cartoonists if you liked this! … [Read more...]

Friday Funny: Johnny

June 12, 2009 By Robert Owen

Here is a funny for everyone this Friday: A first grade teacher, Mrs. Brooks was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, "Johnny what is your problem?" Johnny answered, "I am too smart for the first Grade. My sister is in the third grade and I am smarter than she is! I think I should be in third grade too." Mrs. Brooks had enough. She took Johnny to the principal's office. … [Read more...]
