Email Scam – Trying another route

June 15, 2009 By Robert Owen

I got another Scam attempt in the e-mail tonight and thought I would share. I may have to make a whole new section of the site for these pitiful attempts. I guess it must sucker somebody, else they wouldn't continue the effort. Maybe since I've ignored all of their other attempts, they decided they needed to switch directions. Received: from cantv.net (rs20s9.datacenter.cha.cantv.net [200.109.127.76]) by rs26s12.datacenter.cha.cantv.net (8.14.3/8.14.3/3.0) with ESMTP id n5F10Xop008234; Sun, … [Read more...]

Here’s to MAC Security

June 13, 2009 By Robert Owen

This was another "Eaten" Post. I'm adding it back because I find it is still relevant information in the whole MAC vs PC debate going on these days. The information below is slightly dated but, it really hasn't changed much in the past year. Problems still exist on BOTH sides. (Although the MAC guys would lead you to believe otherwise.) Well, we always hear of the Apple Macintosh's superior OS security... How they never get viruses; never lock-up, No "Holes" in their OS etc.. And, now that … [Read more...]

Another Spammer Mail

May 20, 2009 By Robert Owen

Here's another variation on that silly, "We've got some money for you" e-mail scam. Oh and, FYI, the spelling errors are the Spammer's not mine. Obviously spammers cannot afford spell checkers. This is a scam!  If you get this, delete it.  After making fun of it of course. ATTENTION THIS IS TO ALERT YOU THAT THE POLICE HAVE GOT THOSE THAT EXTORT MONEY FROM YOU IN AFRICA WE ARE ABLE TO GET YOUR EMAIL THROUGH ONE OF THE CRIMINAL . THE GOVERNIOR OF THIS COUNTRY MR NELSON BEN ARE REWARDING … [Read more...]

About Your Payment. Really?

April 13, 2009 By Robert Owen

I got an new variation on that Nigerian E-mail Scam today. Remember that one? It's the one where somebody rich in Nigeria can't get the money out of their relatives estate and needs to transfer it to your American Bank account. And, in return they will give you a generous fee... All you have to do is give them "ALL" your information. Bank Name, address, bank account, social security number, blood type, next of kin, etc, etc, etc... Well, the one I got today takes on another angle, check it … [Read more...]

September 20, 2007 By Robert Owen

The other day a client called me reporting that he was unable to download his e-mail with Outlook 2003. He reported this error: Your incoming (POP3) mail server has reported an Internal Error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP). The server Reported: -ERR problem retrieving message. Now, this is a horrible error.. Really only because it is so vague. Microsoft says this about that error: CAUSE This … [Read more...]
